5 Most fun Sip and Paints in Amsterdam

What makes a good Paint and Sip?

Before we dive into the list, let's talk about what makes a good Paint and Sip . As you can maybe already distinguish from the name there are two main things that are crucial, the painting and the drinks. At a good Paint and Sip you want there to be a professional art instructor that can help with your painting. You also want there to be both good and sufficient wine, nothing sparks the creativity as much as a proper glass of white or red.

However, those are not the only things important to a sip and paint. There are plenty of other factors which we took into consideration putting together this ranking: Fun, music, affordability and special extra's. Now, on to the list!

1. Rembrandt van Wine

Starting off with the most special Sip and Paint of the capital: Rembrandt van Wine. Special because the whole event takes place in the (almost) dark. This intimate atmosphere doesn't take away from the actual painting experience. You can easily see what you paint, using a mix of normal acrylic paint and neon paint that pops right off the canvas with the black lights turned on.

There is both an art instructor and a host present. The art instructor talks you through the techniques needed for the painting of the day and walks around for 1-on-1 advice. The host makes sure that everyone has a good time and the right music is playing.

Rembrandt van Wine is priced at just 42.50 per person, including everything. Next to public events, Rembrandt van Wine also organises private Sip and Paints, and recently started hosting sip and clay workshops as well.

The independent jury over at hobbyschilders.nl also named Rembrandt van Wine the number 1 Paint and Sip experience in Amsterdam (article in Dutch).

  • Pricing: 42.50
  • Duration: 2 Hours
  • Group size: 15-25
  • Art instructor: Yes + a host present
  • Language: English + Dutch
  • Private event option: Yes.

2. Sip and Paints NL

Sip and Paints NL organises ‘classic' Sip and Paint events for groups larger than 10 people. Traditional in the sense that the event takes place in a brightly-lit studio. If you book a private session with Sip and Paints NL then you will be converted into an artist for a day under the direct guidance of an art instructor. Added plus to this event is that they also can also take care of the music during your event. And no, not some boring playlist but an actual DJ playing tunes.

Unfortunately currently they do not host public events meaning that you can't buy a single or double ticket for a Paint and Sip event and only organise events with your own exclusive group of friends, colleagues or your whole family.

  • Pricing: On request
  • Duration: On request
  • Group size: Starting at 10
  • Art instructor: Yes
  • Language: English + Dutch

3. Smidtje Sip and Paint

I hear you think: Isn't Smidtje a boat company? And yes, you are right, they are a boat company. This means that you get to boat through the beautiful canals of Amsterdam while Painting and Sipping away.

They used to also offer regular events for which you could purchase tickets, but since short they have discontinued this service making this activity only possible when booking a private event. During the boat ride you will get a mini-easel & you can order cocktails while you are at it.

Definitely one of the more unique Paint and Sips in the city.

  • Pricing: On request
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Group size: You decide
  • Art instructor: No
  • Language: English
  • Website

4. Art Studio Amsterdam

Art studio Amsterdam is one that we particularly like, because next to hosting Paint and Sips for adults, they also organise special events for children. The Sip and Paints for adults are rather typical, there is an art instructor explaining you the basics of painting while you are having a good glass of wine or organic tea (that is not so typical).

Next to booking 1 individual paint session, you can also book a series of classes to really develop your painting skills further. These Sip and Paints are more beginner friendly, warm-up workshops – in order to get you ready for the real deal (several course workshop) afterwards.

  • Pricing: Differs per workshop
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Group size: 15-20
  • Art instructor: Yes
  • Language: English
  • Website

5. Artparty

Artparty hosts their Paint & Sips at a variety of different popular and less-popular cafes throughout the city, and now since recently also in their own painting atelier in Amsterdam West. In both places you have to pay for drinks, but the cafe experience is maybe a bit more for people that don't mind noise whereas the atelier experience is meant for people that like to paint in tranquility.

Their 2-hour paint and drink workshops are a great place for getting creative. The instructor is using a microphone to ensure that even in the busiest of cafes you will get to hear each of her instructions – and to guide you step-by-step through the painting of the day. Clearly, they provide you with all the material and strongly encourage you to take it home with you afterwards.

Prices, and what you get in return, vary quite a bit dependent on the venue so all together good to keep a close eye on where your event will be hosted while booking.

  • Pricing: 46.13 (including 1 drink (sometimes))
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Group size: Starting at 10
  • Art instructor: Yes
  • Language: English + Dutch
